Mapping fields from Microsoft Intune to AssetLoom

Learn how to map Microsoft Intune fields to AssetLoom and configure how device information is imported, matched, and stored in your asset inventory.

Field Mapping controls how data received from Microsoft Intune is written into AssetLoom. It shows how Intune fields feed AssetLoom’s built-in fields, lets you resolve manufacturer and model values, and allows additional Intune data to be stored in AssetLoom custom fields.

To access Field Mapping, open the Microsoft Intune Integration Details page and select the Field Mapping tab.

The page is divided into five areas:

  • Mapping Overview: summarizes the current state of your field mappings.
  • Asset Identity & Core Fields: shows how AssetLoom’s built-in asset fields receive data from Intune.
  • Reference Value Mapping: maps individual manufacturer and model values from Intune to AssetLoom records.
  • Custom Fields: maps additional Intune fields to AssetLoom custom fields.
  • Intune Field Browser: lets you browse every discovered Intune field and start mapping additional data.

1. Mapping Overview

At the top of the Field Mapping page, the summary cards give you a quick view of the current mapping state.

mapping overview microsoft intune

  • Mapping health: indicates the overall completeness of your current field mappings.
  • Discovered fields: shows the total number of Intune fields AssetLoom has discovered.
  • Needs review: shows how many mappings still require attention, such as a manufacturer or model value that has not yet been resolved.
  • Custom fields mapped: shows how many Intune fields are currently mapped to AssetLoom custom fields.

You can use these cards to quickly identify areas that may still need configuration.

2. Asset Identity & Core Fields

Asset Identity & Core Fields shows how the essential fields of an AssetLoom asset are populated from Microsoft Intune. AssetLoom automatically provides the standard mappings for these fields, so you do not need to manually choose their Intune source.

Asset Identity & Core Fields in Intune integration

Each core field is described by four parts, showing how its data moves from Intune into AssetLoom:

  • AssetLoom Field: the built-in AssetLoom field receiving the data.
  • Intune Source: the Intune field from which AssetLoom reads the value.
  • Rule: determines how the incoming Intune value interacts with existing AssetLoom data, such as Intune wins, Fill blanks only, or AssetLoom wins. This reflects the rules configured under Sync Behavior.
  • Type: indicates whether the mapping is Fixed or Remappable.
    • Fixed mappings are predefined and cannot be changed.
    • Remappable fields require individual Intune values to be resolved to AssetLoom records.
  • Mapped shows how many values have already been resolved for a remappable field.
  • Actions: any additional setup available for that field. Most core fields don’t require any action, since they’re auto-mapped already. For Manufacturer and Model, you can configure how their values are matched to AssetLoom records using the Configure values button, or by configuring at the Reference Value Mapping section below.
Did you know

Category does not have a direct Microsoft Intune source in this section.

Instead, once Manufacturer and Model are mapped, AssetLoom looks up the category already associated with that model and applies it automatically. If no model match exists, AssetLoom falls back to the Fallback Category you chose when you first connected to Microsoft Intune.

3. Reference Value Mapping

Reference Value Mapping maps the manufacturer and model values received from Microsoft Intune to the corresponding Manufacturer and Asset Model records in AssetLoom.

Why do we need to map values of Manufacturer and Model?

Microsoft Intune reports these as free-text values (for example, Apple, Dell), and those raw values don’t automatically match an existing AssetLoom manufacturer or model record. Value mapping connects each raw Microsoft Intune value to the correct AssetLoom record, so AssetLoom knows what Apple or Dell from Microsoft Intune actually corresponds to.

For example:

  • Intune manufacturer Apple → AssetLoom Manufacturer Apple
  • Intune model iPhone 11 Pro Max → AssetLoom Asset Model iPhone 11 Pro Max

If an Intune manufacturer or model value has not been mapped yet, it appears as Needs mapping in this section.

Reference Value Mapping in Intune Integration

To map a value:

  • Find the manufacturer or model value that shows Needs mapping and click Map value (or click Add value mapping to create a new value to be mapped).
  • A panel opens where you confirm:

add value mapping panel

  • the Map type: Manufacturer or Asset Model
  • the Intune value being mapped (e.g., Windows, Mac, etc.)
  • Choose the AssetLoom record to map it to:
    • Map to existing: select an existing Manufacturer or Asset Model in AssetLoom.
    • Create new and map: create a new Manufacturer or Asset Model, then map the Intune value to it.
  • Click Save Mapping to save the mapping.

Once mapped, the row shows the AssetLoom value linked to that Intune value. Use Edit to change the mapping or Delete to remove it.

4. Custom Fields

Custom Fields maps additional Intune fields to AssetLoom custom fields. Use this section for Intune data that is not already covered by AssetLoom’s core fields, such as enrollment details, IMEI, compliance information, network data, or device health.

Once mapped, the Intune value is written to the selected AssetLoom custom field on each sync.

custom field mapping in Intune integration

To add a custom field mapping, click Add Mapping. A panel opens where you can:

  • Search for and select the Intune field you want to map. Once selected, a Sample value from your Intune data appears underneath it, so you can see the kind of value you’re working with.
  • Choose where to store the value in AssetLoom:
    • Map to existing: select an existing AssetLoom custom field to map the Intune field to. map intune fields to existing fields in AssetLoom
    • Create new and map: create a new custom field in AssetLoom and map the Intune field to it. create new fields and map fields from Intune to AssetLoom
  • If needed, select a Transform to change the incoming value before it is written to AssetLoom.

select a Transform to change the incoming value before it is written to AssetLoom

  • Available transforms include:
    • None: writes the value as received from Intune.
    • Uppercase: converts text to uppercase.
    • Lowercase: converts text to lowercase.
    • ÷ 1024 (MB → GB): converts a value from megabytes to gigabytes.
    • Yes/No (boolean_yn): converts a Boolean value into Yes or No.
  • Click Save Mapping.

Once saved, the mapping appears in the Custom Fields table and is applied to future syncs.

Intune Field Browser

The Intune Field Browser lists all Intune fields currently discovered by AssetLoom. You can use it to review what data is available from Intune and quickly find fields you may want to map to AssetLoom custom fields.

Intune Field Browser

Fields are grouped by data type, such as Device, Assignment, Security, Enrollment, Hardware, Identity, Network, Compliance, and OS.

For each field, you can see:

  • Intune Field: the field name received from Intune.
  • Sample: an example value from your synced Intune data, when available.
  • Status: shows whether the field is already mapped.
  • Actions: lets you start mapping an available field.

Use the filters at the top to narrow the list:

  • All: shows all discovered Intune fields.
  • Unmapped: shows fields that are not currently mapped.
  • Mapped: shows fields already mapped to AssetLoom custom fields.
  • Canonical: shows Intune fields already used by AssetLoom’s predefined core field mappings.

Use the search box to find a specific Intune field by name. If new fields become available from Intune, click Refresh fields to update the field list.

To map an Unmapped field directly from the browser, click the Map button next to it.

o map an Unmapped field directly from the browser, click the Map button next to it.

The Add Mapping panel opens with that Intune field already selected. You can then map it to an existing AssetLoom custom field or create a new one.
