AssetLoom Network Scanner Overview

Get an overview of AssetLoom Network Scanner, including how it discovers devices on your network, what information it can collect, and how scan results can be reviewed, exported, and used in AssetLoom.

AssetLoom Network Scanner helps you discover devices on your authorized IPv4 network and see what is currently connected. Instead of manually checking every asset on your network, you can scan your selected network range and collect available device information in one place.

1. What Can Network Scanner Do?

With the network scanner, you can:

  • Discover and collect connected devices by scanning a single IP address, subnet, IP range, or multiple network ranges.
  • Collect device details, including IP address, MAC address, hostname, vendor, open TCP ports, and device type.
  • See how each device was discovered and review the discovery status for each protocol.
  • Export scan results as CSV or JSON for review or to use in your asset management workflow.
  • Run a dry run before scanning to validate targets, scan scope, protocol availability, and configuration without sending discovery packets.

2. Access And Permissions

AssetLoom Network Scanner is agentless. It sends network probes from your local computer and does not install software or make changes to discovered devices. All discovery runs locally, and scan results are saved on your computer.

The scanner only requires permission on the computer where it is running:

  • Windows: Administrator access is recommended for full ICMP and ARP discovery.
  • macOS: Run with sudo for full ICMP and ARP discovery.
  • Linux: Run with sudo, or grant the required raw network capability if permitted by your organization.

Without elevated permissions, the scanner can still work for TCP and DNS discovery methods, but ICMP and ARP discovery may be unavailable or limited.
